Thoughts, Thoughts, and Thinking More Thoughts

On the power of thoughts

“If I only have to do it for a minute,” boasted bird, “I can do anything.”

“Even think good thoughts about yourself?” asked bear.

How many thoughts do you think you have in any given day?

The research is all over the place – from 6,000 to 60,000.

Further research proposes that up to 80% of those thoughts are “negative.”

Self-defeating. Unnecessarily critical. Resentful.
Unspacious. Unloving. Coming from a place of lack.

So, if you think 6,000 thoughts a day and up to 4,800 of those aren’t positive, that means – in the time you’re awake – you’re having up to 5 negative thoughts a minute.

That’s a whopping 1,752,000 negative thoughts a year!

And just think about those negative messages we’ve been internalizing since we were kids. Every day. Over and over again. Across the decades.

Not good enough. Not loveable. Not worthy. Not capable. The list goes on and on; so ingrained as to be barely conscious; so a part of us, we just accept as-is.

Now, what if you could intentionally surround yourself in a cozy blanket of loving, kind, and self-compassionate thoughts for just one minute a day? What might it look like if you took those 60 seconds to think “I am ______” thoughts?

I am worthy. I am beautiful. I am loveable. I am capable.

While replacing those 5 negative thoughts with 5 positive and affirming thoughts doesn’t sound like a lot, it adds up.

Over the course of a year, you’d be feeding yourself with over 1,825 additional intention-rich, care-filled thoughts.

And that’s what happens when you take a single minute out of your day to focus on your good. Imagine what might happen if you took two or several…

If you were to focus on the next minute, what is one “I am” thought you would like to entertain? For me, it is I am enough.
